ABOUT TIM RYAN PHOTOGRAPHY
My road to photography began as a landscape architect who fell in love with illuminating those landscapes to enjoy them at night. Then I moved fully into the lighting design world well over 20+ years ago. Since I needed to grow my lighting business, the best way to convey my ideas to my new clients was to try to capture the essence of them at the moment I was experiencing them. This moved me to pick up a camera and that is where my journey began nearly 20 years ago and what a ride it has been. Today I am still a lighting designer, but my passion for photography has never been greater. For fun, I enjoy restoring and photographing with vintage analog cameras as it tends to slow me down and remind me why I fell in love with this art to begin with.
Teaching photography is also a passion of mine
Low light, night-time photography is probably one of the most challenging genre's to become proficient at because we starve the camera sensor of the one thing it needs most to create a beautiful image - LIGHT. When I was getting started out, there were no classes or experts I could lean on to mentor me, so I had to gut it out and learn it by trial and error over a couple of decades. The tools and the software available at our finger tips today makes the process easier, but most still struggle to create an exact approximate of what our eyes capture at night. A camera is just a machine and our eyes are a miracle.

To help the next generation of lighting designer (or anyone interested in advanced low light photography), I will be creating classes and tutorials to help them out. Pop your name on my list from the link below and you'll be the first to be notified when they are available.

Many Thanks,
